Exciting news for Rare Beauty fans: The makeup brand, founded by Selena Gomez in 2020, launched two new lip products—the Kind Words Matte Lipsticks and Liners—and they're finally here. And you've already gotten a sneak peek: Gomez has low-key been wearing them on the red carpet and while promoting her hit show, Only Murders in the Building (now streaming on Hulu), for months.
The Kind Words Matte Lipsticks come in 10 shades and have a buttery, non-drying formula that lasts all day. "I wanted to create a classic lipstick that's truly comfortable. Every shade is easy and wearable, and just perfect for every day," Gomez says.
The liners also come in 10 shades that match back to the lipsticks, and come with a built-in sharpener. "This is everything I've ever wanted in a lip liner. Super smooth and doesn't tug on your lips and made to last all day without feeling sticky," the Rare Beauty founder says.
Considering the viral success of Rare Beauty's Soft Pinch Liquid Blush (a 2022 Harper's BAZAAR Skincare Award winner), it's only a matter of time before the Kind Words lineup follows in its footsteps. "I think TikTok is so fun. I love watching beauty creators, and I've learned so much from them," Gomez tells BAZAAR.com over email. She answers more of our questions about the latest launches, as well as how she's wearing them with her other favorite products, below.
How long have you been secretly wearing the Kind Words Matte Lipsticks and Liners?
I’ve been testing and wearing these products for the past year with my friends and makeup artists. This year, I’ve worn the lipstick and liners to the SAG Awards, Critics Choice Awards, Only Murders in the Building press days, and on my days off.
What’s the one shade of each you can’t stop wearing, and why do you love it?
I can’t stop wearing the new Kind Words Matte Lip Liner in Fun, which I have been pairing with the Kind Words Matte Lipstick in Lively. Fun is a beautiful neutral mauve, and Lively is more of a rose-pink shade, and they complement each other well. If I want a bold lip look, my go-to is Gifted, which is a deep dusty plum. That’s what I’m wearing in the campaign!
The lipsticks and liners are so easy to wear, because they’re comfortable and creamy, so the lips stay soft and supple. I love this collection because every shade is wearable and perfect for an everyday look whether I’m mixing and matching or wearing the same shades.
What other Rare Beauty products do you like to wear with the lip products?
For a radiant look, I start my routine with the Always an Optimist Illuminating Primer, and then I apply a few dots of Liquid Touch Brightening Concealer under my eyes and anywhere I want extra coverage. The Warm Wishes Effortless Bronzer Stick is my favorite way to add warmth, and I apply to my cheeks, nose, and forehead—anywhere that the sun naturally hits.
I apply two small dots of Soft Pinch Liquid Blush to each cheek and blend with my fingertips. I love the healthy flush of color that blush adds to your face. I use the Brow Harmony Pencil and Gel on my brows before moving on to my lips. I line my lips with Kind Words Matte Lip Liner, and then apply Kind Words Matte Lipstick, which cushions my lips with creamy, soft matte color in one swipe. I finish off my look with two coats of Perfect Strokes Universal Volumizing Mascara.
